Log Cabins FAQ

Do I need planning permission?
No, not on the smaller building. Yes, on houses. As a rule, you can build with a certificate of lawfulness if the building is: 5m from a dwelling, less than 4m high, does not take up more than 50% of the area of your plot including your house.
Will it last?
There are buildings in Finland more than 200 years old, but using Northern grown Redwood/Nordic pine is most important.
What thickness log do I need?
45mm flat log is OK for summer use, we can install an insulated roof with the 45mm building, this will be OK in all but the most windy of days. Our most popular log is 70mm solid for home offices, workshops etc, but we can build in round log up to 350mm or solid log to 130mm or laminated log to 210mm.
What do I do now?
You can first request our complete log building guide and then phone the office, to discuss your requirements we can then price your building. On smaller buildings i.e. Summer houses or workshops we can price in a few days. On larger non standard chalets, pool enclosures and houses, plans have to be drawn and prices obtained so may take longer.
Can I live in a log building?
Most definitely Yes. The Finnish won't live anywhere else.
If you have any further questions, please phone Rob or Sharon Sheridan and we will endeavour to answer your queries.
